Keep Potatoes Moving Through the Whole Line
Shorten your Potato Please shift with controlled early peels, prompt deliveries, and machines that stay supplied without blocking their water output. Follow the active objectives into sack transport and Crane Autopilot, spending on the part of the operation that is currently slowing everything else down.
Make the Manual Opening Repeatable
- Open a starting potato sack to get your opening supply ready for the workbench.
- Peel with controlled movements, repositioning the potato to reach the remaining skin. Keeping the blade from digging deeply preserves more usable potato.
- Deliver the cleaned potatoes through the chute to complete the delivery objective and gain access to the supply window.
- Requisition the Rusty Knife when its terminal objective appears so you can continue the required tool progression.
- Complete the Warm-up Shift objective to reach the next handling requirements.
- Purchase the required Carry Capacity upgrade when instructed, preparing for the objective that opens the larger work area.
Peeling and delivery are separate parts of the opening, so a clean potato left at the workstation has not completed its journey. Finish the delivery before heading back to the terminal. Aim for a cutting motion you can repeat comfortably, with enough control to avoid carving away useful flesh.
Spend Journal points on the problem interrupting your peeling rhythm. Stamina helps when recovery keeps making you wait, while Tremor Treatment addresses hand movement and drift. Auto Rotate reduces manual repositioning, but practice controlling the blade with it before relying on it throughout an attempt.
Move From Bench Work to Machine Production
Community progression guides recommend following the current work objective before saving for equipment you cannot use yet. Check what is available at your stage, then make the purchase that removes the delay you can see. Reassess optional manual upgrades as the objectives begin moving you into machine production.
- Buy the Kitchen Table when its objective becomes available. Its expanded workstation and Auto Launcher reduce repeated handling at the bench.
- Purchase the Crank Peel Machine after completing the Kitchen Table objective. This moves peeling into a machine, although operating the crank still takes your time.
- Purchase the Auto Peel Machine when it becomes available to add motorized peeling capacity.
- Feed the hopper in batches to reduce the repeated attention spent topping it up.
- Add the Sack Gantry to move full sacks into the processing area. It delivers them to the emptiest peeling machine automatically.
- Add the Sack Cableway as progression allows to improve transport from the outdoor pile toward the bunker.
Spend on the Delay You Can Actually See
Watch whether the peeling machines are waiting for potatoes or working through a backlog. Empty machines point you toward improving sack delivery or crane supply. When transport is already delivering faster than the machines can process, put your attention on peeling capacity and available improvements such as Overclock.
Prepare the next load while the gantry is moving instead of watching every sack travel. After introducing a new transport stage, follow its load to make sure the processing system receives it. This gives you a useful check before spending more on the same part of the line.
Make the Crane Feed the Hopper Reliably
- Position the crane's claw over the outdoor pile so it is ready to collect a load.
- Lower the claw into the pile to collect potatoes.
- Move the captured load toward the processing hopper to bring it to the unloading point.
- Release the load above the hopper so the collected potatoes enter the processing system.
- Unlock Crane Autopilot when available so collection and unloading can repeat without you driving the crane.
- Watch a complete Autopilot collection and unloading cycle to check that the potatoes reach the hopper.
Once Autopilot is supplying the hopper, use the freed time for work that still needs your attention. Watch the bunker and peeling equipment as supply increases. If the processing system is backing up, improve that stage before making the crane deliver faster.
Account for Hotfix Changes Before Comparing Runs
Golden Horn Studios changed hopper behavior in Hotfix 1.0.1: cut potatoes that previously became trapped now roll back out unpeeled. Hotfix 1.0.2 addresses severe late-game slowdowns and crashes caused by peeled potatoes jamming the water channel. Keep the output moving and compare attempts made under matching patch conditions.
In Hotfix 1.0.2, pile recounting begins when you buy the crane and repeats every 6 minutes, or every 2.5 minutes with Autopilot. Use those timings when planning around the recount behavior. Keep checking actual supply and output while the machinery works.
Leaderboard Timing and Ending Replays
- What should I use as the stopping point for a leaderboard attempt?
- Use the shift time recorded by the game as your result. Keep your recording running through completion and check the recorded time afterward, rather than assuming that the quota counter or a particular ending interaction marks the stopping point.
- Does replaying the ending change my recorded shift time?
- No. Golden Horn Studios confirms that Hotfix 1.0.2 prevents replaying the ending from a finished save from changing your shift time. Finished-save ending replay was introduced in Hotfix 1.0.1.
- Should I use a video's completion time as my target?
- Treat a video's time as the result of that individual run. Compare its difficulty, patch and route with your attempt before drawing conclusions. Keep your own recording if you want to review where your shift lost time.
